There’s no crying in baseball!

“Are you crying?!? There’s no crying in baseball!”? If you’ve ever seen “A League of Their Own” then you surely remember that quote, made famous by Tom Hanks’ character, the coach.

Something about the story in Mark 9, of the boy who was possessed by an evil spirit, reminded me of that line from the film. The disciples were unable to help a small child and when his father saw Jesus, he begged for his son, asking “If you can do anything, do it. Have a heart and help us!”  MSG  I can almost hear the Lord Jesus using that same tone of voice as Tom Hanks: “If? There are no ‘ifs’ among believers. Anything can happen.” In other words, does this father know who he is talking to??? “If you can?” he asks. Of course the Lord can!  The father struggled with doubt. Don’t we all? But look who we are talking to – Jesus! I think I will trust Him with my little grain of faith, even in the midst of all my doubts – because He’s the One Who can!
On the journey … Valerie
